My Most Anticipated Movies of 2012 Part Two

Read after the jump for the Top 5 Most Anticipated Movies of 2012.  Ten through six can be found in Part One here!

5. Underworld: Awakening
I have actually enjoyed the Underworld series, despite its many faults they have been good vampire movies. I am surprised however to see that a fourth instalment is set for release. I figured once a prequel had been made the story of that franchise was over, but it seems I am wrong. The plot is simple, Selene (Kate Beckinsale) awakes from imprisonment and escapes to find a world in which humans have discovered the existence of both vampires and lycans, and is attempting to eradicate both. What I don't understand is how the pitiful humans have the slightest chance against these powerful immortal beings. I would have thought that if war did break out the humans would be the first to be destroyed. So I'm interested in how this film ends up, but even if the story is lacking I'm sure there will be lots of vampire and werewolf action to keep me happy.

Release: January 20

The above is not an official trailer as one has not yet been released, but is a decent enough look at what to expect.

4. World War Z
Another book adaptation, but this time of one I have read! It is based on the book of the same name written by Max Brooks, it stars Brad Pitt and is directed by that guy who directed Quantum of Solace. This could be pretty amazing, the book definitely was, but I find it hard to see how the book would translate to the big screen. It is made up of many different stories from lots of different people's perspectives which slowly fill in the gaps of the overall story of a Zombie apocalypse. I've marked my calendar for this one, very interested in how it turns out.

Release: December 21

3. Prometheus
Ridley Scott has stated that this is not a prequel to his hugely successful film 'Alien', but that it does "contain some alien DNA". It is going to explore its own mythology though I imagine it will have lots of little insider stuff for those long time Alien fans. The story of this one is pretty simple, it is the late 21st century and humans go off on a ship called The Prometheus to explore an advanced civilization of alien beings in an attempt to discover the origins of humanity. After watching the trailer I am sold and can't wait for this movie, though I am expecting a time travelling clone of Ripley to turn up at some point.

Release: June 8

2. Dark Knight Rises
The conclusion of Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight series is here and promises to be great and it has to be. With the success of Nolan's previous Batman films, especially 'The Dark Knight' the finale has a lot of to live up to. Nolan's dark, realistic approach to Batman has so far been executed perfectly and will hopefully translate the slightly larger than life characters such as Bane and Cat Women well. I don't think anyone doubts that this one is going to be a huge success.  The film is set eight years after 'The Dark Knight', Batman has been hunted by the police after assuming responsibility of Harvey Dent's crimes but now he must stop the villain Bane's plans for destroying the city while figuring out the mystery of Selina Kyle.

Release: July 20

1. The Avengers
Marvel have been planning this from 2005 since before the success of 'Iron Man' and have put a lot of preparation into it. With the success of Marvel's recent films, 'The Avengers' is sure to be an epic triumph! They even have Joss Whedon behind the wheel, so this could be my most anticipated film of ever. Not a lot is known about the plot though, of course, much has been suggested through teasers in other movies, but all we know for sure is that some kind of powerful evil is threatening mankind and The Avengers are formed to
defeat the bad guys.

Release: May 4
