Dish's Stack - Marvel and DC Comics 04/01/12

It seems the comic gods really want me to catch up with my stack, as I only have five new comics this week - five!  They are five cracking ones though, including The Punisher; Thunderbolts and my personal favourite of the New 52 - Action Comics.  These and more after the jump!
Fear Itself: The Fearless #6
After Valkerie's disappointing, if poignant, encounter with Ben Grimm in the Baxter Building, and Crossbones' all-out assault on the The Raft that totally made up for it, both sides of the hammer-scavenger hunt find themselves with, i believe, three hammers each - a total of six out of the eight.  Sin's plan has been revealed to be that she intends to use the hammers' power to awaken a sleeping robot, that was hinted (in the WWII flashback with The Invaders) to contain an organic creature inside - Frost Giant or otherwise.  Despite some incredible action sequences, the plot of this series had felt a little off, but now with some hint of what is at stake, the comic feels a lot better.  This week's issue sees Valkerie storming Sin's hideout with her Avenger buddies, and promises a sweet one-on-one between Wolverine and Crossbones!  Should be another good one.

The Punisher #7
In, what I believe is, the first issue of a month-long crossover between some of New York's finest super heroes, Frank Castle faces off against Daredevil (before, presumably, coming to some sort of compromise).  After recovering from the injuries he sustained fending off the new-look Vulture, Frank picked up exactly where he left off - the controlled destruction of The Exchange, an underground gang attempting to control criminal activity.  Castle is being aided by two police officers - only one he is aware of - and this finely balanced series of relationships are bound to topple one way or another..

Thunderbolts #168
Last month, the time-hopping Thunderbolts found themselves in yet another historical era, this time in Medieval England face-to-face with a/the Black Knight.  Headway was also made in the present day, with Luke Cage and the rest of the T-Bolts locking onto the location of the time-travelers.  According to previews, this issue seems to concentrate more on the present day, with Cage being subdued by Mr. Fear - a development that I'm not sure whether I'm happy about or not..  If this turns out to be a development that is good for the story then, of course, I am all for it; but if it is merely a tacked-on side-note to keep the present-dayers having some screen-time, then I'm not so sure.

Action Comics #5
A great issue last month, with a great introduction to a villain!  It appears that this issue will have some more of Superman's past pre-Kents, and tie-in with events of the future - a tease of linking with the Superman comic?  Metropolis has been packed up and sent into the clutches of the Collector, but Superman already appeared to have a plan, so everything is going to be OK!  I quite enjoyed the mini-introduction to Steel at the end of last issue, and it says to me that we should all expect to see more from John Henry Irons!

Detective Comics #5
Last month the Dollmaker slipped one passed Batman, and managed to escape with a couple of his flunkies - so expect to be seeing from him in some form sooner rather than later!  The new arc sees Batman on the trail of a serial assassin, who is killing off members of the Gotham underworld.  All signs point to The Penguin until Bruce Wayne's girlfriend Charlotte Rivers goes missing!  Recently, in Batman #4, Bruce spoke of how he doesn't allow himself to make investigations personal, for risk of endangering himself or others - will he be able to pull that off here?

With several Marvel comics I collected being cancelled, and a couple limited series coming to an end, i find myself facing some pretty short stacks in the coming months, so i ask you, are there any comics i should be reading?  Anything outstanding that should not be missed?  Tell me down in the comments.

Dish Out!

Dish's Stack is where i talk about the comics i will be buying this week!  Judge my taste all you like, but that's what this is! I will normally focus on my thoughts of previous issues and possible developments, but nevertheless be wary of minor (or possibly major) spoilers if you do not keep very up-to-date with series or previews, but I'll do my best not to reveal anything too surprising
