Bieber on Movies
With cold weather fast approaching InfinityFeed HQ what
better way to stay warm and comfy than with a good film. But whilst it does
mean venturing out I’m sure you’ll agree that this fortnight’s selection of
films looks like it will be worth it. So here is a look at the latest up and
coming releases at the cinema, we hope you enjoy.
Chronicle – Released 01/02/2012
This supernatural blockbuster looks like it will be a big
hit in February. Centred around three
teenagers and their video camera it explores the boys discovery,
experimentation and eventual mastery of telepathic superpowers. Initially these
powered up teens test themselves like we all would, by scaring little girls
with dancing bears and using leaf blowers to lift girl’s skirts. But as the
boys begin to push the limits of their powers it seems that one of them is becoming
a little too keen on destruction. Shot initially
in a similar style to Cloverfield this film looks amazing, the actors seem both
genuine and engaging which is difficult to pull off considering this films
style. Overall this looks to be a
promising film that is defiantly worth a visit to the cinema for.
Verdict: See this film
Man on a Ledge – Released 03/02/2012
Man on a ledge is a classic attempted by Hollywood to do a
clever robbery story. Sam Worthington plays the supposed suicidal man, charged
with the theft of an evil business tycoon’s million dollar diamond and now
literally out on a ledge. However, and unlike the trailer I will call *spoiler
alert* all this is just a ruse to distract the city and the police as Jamie
Bell and a crack team of robbers try to break into the tycoon’s vault and steal
the real diamond.
Bar the twist being spoilt in the trailer, which I thought
was unnecessary and would have added an extra hidden layer to the film, this
does look intriguing. Worthington and Bell seem to work well as the brotherly
duo trying to take down the evil tycoon played by Ed Harris, who is on top
form. Really this film is a good way to waste a few hours but don’t be
expecting any mind blowing twists or turns.
Verdict: You’ll probably enjoy this film.
Jack and Jill – Released 03/02/2012
I think Hollywood first got the idea for this film from an episode
of South Park where Cartman dressed as AWESOMEO and gave movie ideas to film
execs, I never thought they’d actually make it. Jack and Jill stars Adam
Sandler as a family man with the perfect life, a beautiful wife, two adorable
children, a dream job there is just one problem his crazy sister. Queue the
Sandler style series of sketches and silly one liners strung together with a
weak and often ridiculous story. Really this
film is one that your either going to see and nothing I can say will dissuade
you or you already know it’s bad just from the posters and trailer.
Verdict: Avoid at all costs.
The Woman in Black -10/02/2012
Marking his first leading role since the Harry Potter films
Daniel Radcliff looks excellent in Jane Goldman’s adaptation of the classic
Susan Hill ghost story. The story revolves around a young lawyer who is sent to
a rural north village to settle the affairs of a recently deceased resident.
Whilst there he encounters terrifying apparitions, mysterious deaths and is
forced to uncover the villages dark and evil secret, the woman in black.
Whilst the film itself cannot be described as
scary it certainly seems to capture the creepy vibe of the classic ghost story.
Radcliff himself seems to have truly shed his image of the boy who lived in
this film, and is unrecognisable as our intrepid hero. Unfortunately his
supporting characters seem a little wooden and too pantomime when compared to
the dark and sinister realism that the film seems to be aiming for. Overall
this looks like a good thriller and is likely to keep you entertained, maybe
even make you jump in parts but it is not the truly terrifying picture that the
woman in black should have been.
Verdict: Toss a coin
The Muppets – 10/02/2012
Finally the Muppets
arrive on our British screens, months after the Americans had the release the
2012 adventures of Kermit and the gang is here (personally I think its revenge
for us getting Thor first). I have been truly excited about this film and
following everything I could since I found about its creation 2 years ago. Written
by and starring Jason Segel this film promises to be a comedy fest of epic
proportions.
The story is a classic Muppet style tale, 12 years after their
last adventure the gang has all gone their separate ways, but when a diehard
fan discovers an Evil Oil Tycoon’s plan to demolish the old muppet theatre he
sets out to reunite the group for one last show. You can be sure this film will be filled with classic muppet
style humour, from the silly slap-stick of Gonzo to the dark sarcasm of Rizo,
with maybe a bit of domestic violence from Miss Piggy. All in all there isn’t much
to say other than go see this film, the trailer alone is enough to spark the
nostalgia inside.
So all I can say is it’s time to play the music, it’s time
to light the lights,...
Verdict: See this film multiple times
