3DS breaks first-year sales record in Japan
For most of last year the world was pretty indifferent to the 3DS despite its potential to be one of the great handheld consoles, and the only attention it seemed to get was based around the price-drop controversy and the resulting Ambassador program.  The end of the year however, in Japan at least, the 3DS saw phenomenal sales figures, which were reported at the time but I don't think anyone could have predicted just how big a difference those weeks before Christmas would make to the 3DS' yearly total.
The 3DS has just surpassed the 5million units sold mark in Japan, with nearly half of those sales occurring in the last three months or so.  This mammoth acceleration of sales took the 3DS' figures from below that of the original DS, the Wii and the GBA to the top of the Nintendo charts, achieving the highest first-year sales of any Nintendo console - not bad for a "flop" eh?

More 'Zelda Symphony' dates! - Still nothing outside the U.S.
When it was revealed that a full blown orchestra would be touring the world playing music from the series' 25-year history I may have actually fainted.  Original dates were invitation and competition-winner only I believe, but a full ticket-tour to follow made up for the disappointment, though dates and locations haven't exactly been coming thick and fast -  or outside North America for that matter.
So you can imagine my excitement to see an email in my inbox this afternoon announcing new dates!  "Finally!" I thought, "Take my money and give me a ticket".  But alas!  The new dates, too, are solely located in the USA, so I and all other non- North Americans (not that there are many of us) must continue to wait for our chance...
For those of you who will be in the U.S. this summer (living day-to-day or holidaying), the new dates are as follows:
  • June 6; Los Angeles, CA; Greek Theatre (during E3 Expo 2012)
  • July 7; Houston, TX; Jesse H. Jones Hall for the Performing Arts
  • July 12; San Diego, CA; Embarcadero Marina Park South (during Comic Con 2012)
  • July 25; Philadelphia, PA; Mann Center
  • July 26; Vienna, VA; Filene Center at Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts
  • September 22; Minneapolis, MN; Orpheum Theatre
The rest of us will have to carry on waiting...
