Double Fine studios raise over $1.4 million on Kickstarter
This has been a busy week for Tim Schafer and his fans: first, after stating in an interview that no publishers wanted to fund it, Notch offered the money up to make Psychonauts 2;  and now, in an effort to raise funds for an old-school point-and-click adventure game and an accompanying documentary via Kickstarter, he and his Double Fine game studio have raised nearly $1.5 million over the course of a couple of days - the current total is $1,408, 300, but the donations are still rising by a couple hundred dollars per minute as I type this.
The original goal was $400,000, but this target was reached in around eight hours according to an update on the donation page: so the total amount raised recently passed $1million more than the initial target.  Whoever is updating the project page (Tim Schafer himself?) has said that any extra money will go towards making the game and documentary better, as well as creating different versions of the game for platforms other than the PC/Steam release originally intended.
You still have 30 days or so to throw your own money at this endeavour, and you can pick up some cool benefits while you're at it - a $15 donation will bag you the game (when it is released of course), access to both the Beta testing and an exclusive forum for donors.  Other benefits for other amounts include a signed Double Fine poster and 'Thanks' in the credits ($250), all the way up to being a character in the game ($50,000), though that is one hefty price tag.
The game is predicted to be coming out late 2012, first on the PC with iOS, Android, Mac and Linux versions also a possibility.

Billy Connolly to play a Dwarf in 'The Hobbit'
The Hobbit films have been in production for several months now, and Peter Jackson is still casting people to be in the fantasy prequels.
It has been announced that Scottish comedian Billy Connolly will play the Dwarven king Dain Ironfoot, who arrives in the book just in time for the Battle of Five Armies.
Connolly is one of those actors who pops up in the most random places, but usually gives a great performance nonetheless, so I'm sure he'll be in his element as this noble Dwarf.
With the first of the films due out at the end of this year it is a little strange that someone else would be cast so late in the day, in such an epic production, but it's not like Peter Jackson and much of his team haven't done this before - they know what they're doing!

Blizzard hoping Diablo 3 will be out in the Summer
People get on at Valve for not being speedier with their game releases, but the King of long-development is surely Blizzard!  Diablo 2 came out nearly 12 years ago, in the first summer of the new Millennium (the year 2000 for those not keeping count), and we are yet to have the discs spinning in our DVD drives - but that may be about to change!
During Blizzard's '2011 Q4  earnings call', it was revealed that the developer is aiming at a Q2 2012 (calendar year) release for Diablo 3 - so any time April - June.  This is still a very wide and vague window for release, and it is not even confirmed - this is still a target!  But this is the most news we've had on a potential release date for a long time, and there's never been one this short-term before, so fingers crossed!
