Top 5 Badass Zelda Weapons

Incredible Photoshop Skills...
While writing my Skyward Sword review, i got thinking about how underwhelming the items were in the game. They're not bad at all, and in fact, in my opinion, are implemented into the gameplay better than any other Zelda game; they just lacked the 'wow' factor that the series is capable of invoking.  So that got me thinking about previous entries of the series' items/weapons.  Thus was formed this list of my Top 5 favourite Legend of Zelda Weapons!  List after the page break.

 5. The Hammers
Pictured above are the Megaton Hammer from Ocarina of time, and the Skull Hammer from Wind Waker.  Neither found much use (at least not from me) outside their respective dungeons apart from the occasional interaction with the environment - smashing rocks, pressings buttons etc.  That, however, does not stop these items from being awesome.  They both create shockwaves that stun and injure enemies, while the Skull Hammer can even knock smaller creatures aside with it's side-swipe.

4. Ball and Chain
This weapon really took me by surprise in Twilight Princess; located in one of the more unique dungeons in the Zelda series this weapon came in very handy when smashing all things icy.  It could be a little frustrating to use, but it was well worth it to see Link spinning this destruction machine around his head.

3. Fierce Deity Mask
Despite coming late in Majora's Mask, and having very restrictive conditions to use it, this 'weapon' was a superb reward for putting in the time and effort of collecting all the masks.  Wearing this mask turned you into the 'Fierce Deity' with the ability to shoot disks of power out of your most badass of swords.  You could only wear this mask in boss rooms (without using glitches), but even that was enough to make enough of an impression on me to make it on this list.  Fighting Majora was made infinitely easier with this mask, but for whatever reason it didn't make the fight feel cheap - it just made you feel awesome!

2. Augmented Arrows
This one feels like a little bit of a cheat - but what do i care, it's my list!  The bow alone is an iconic Zelda weapon, but each of these augmented arrows is awesome in it's own right.  The Fire arrows set things on fire from a distance; the Ice arrows are all like "Freeze Sucka!", then it freezes stuff; Light arrows can one-shot-kill enemies in certain games; and Bomb arrows are freakin' arrows with freakin' bombs on the end of them! If i had to choose one it would be the bomb arrows, but all 4 of them deserve to be in this list!

1. The Biggoron's Sword
The side-quest to get this weapon can be a complete pain in the ass if you don't know what you're doing, but you are suitably rewarded with this enormous sword!  Does more damage than the Master Sword and prevents you from holding your shield - 'cos shields are for wusses!  The original intent of this list was to pick out the most badass weapons from Zelda games, and i think this sword comfortably satisfies that condition.

Go forth my friends, back to your videogames, and remember - it doesn't matter how you kill things, so long as you look awesome while you're doing it!

  1. You forgot the Powder Keg from Majora's Mask. That was one badass bomb. Too bad they didn't bring back anything like that again in the series.

  2. I'd completely forgotten about those, they were pretty cool. The games might not have brought back those bombs specifically, but they are always experimenting with other bombs - Water bombs, bomblings, remote bombs and the cannons in Wind Waker, Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks.
