Dish's Stack - Marvel and DC Comics - 28/12/11

I did not read nearly as many comics as i intended to over the Christmas break, so my stack is growing to quite an intimidating size..  Making it grow even further tomorrow include The Flash #4 and the penultimate issue of the Alpha Flight limited series.  These and more after the jump.

Alpha Flight #7
With the conclusion next month, it was surprising me me that last issue saw the surprise introduction of Wolverine to the story.  Appearances are always welcome from Canada's most famous superhero, but I feel this just puts more stodge into a story that already has plenty to work from.  Nevertheless, the team continue to try wrestle the Canadian Government back from the fascist forces that have overcome it.  This continues to be a solid story now nearing its end, and I will be sad to see the back of it.

FF #13
The numbering between this comic and Fantastic Four, has been crazy!  Fantastic Four ended with #588; FF #1 through to #11 acted as Fantastic Four #589 - #599, and the titles split for Fantastic Four #600 and FF #12 - bizarre!  Anyway, this book is continuing the story of the battle between the Future Foundation and the Council of Reeds - a group comprised entirely of Reed Richards' from alternate Universes.  This book also appears to be focusing on Dr. Doom and the changes that have happened to him over the past couple of months.  This book doesn't get me as excited as most, but it's a decent story and the interactions between characters are always interesting.

Iron Man 2.0 #12
Last issue, this story got pretty good!  Just as things were looking to be wrapping up thanks to Tony Stark; things took a turn for the worse, and now Rhodey finds himself in an Ironman Vs. Ironman situation - awesome!  Unfortunately, unless i have my sources wrong, this will be the last issue; Fortunately(!), this almost guarantees this book will be going out with a bang!  If you were to take out the pointless Fear Itself tie-ins, this would make for a very good trade/graphic novel (so long as the ending is good of course), and i would definitely recommend people check this out as a collection.

The Mighty Thor #9
Called it!  Then again, it was like guessing that the sun will come up tomorrow morning..  But anyway, Thor is lost in some sort of limbo, and Tanarus is merely Ulik the Troll in disguise.  Last issue gave a lot of 'secrets' away, without suggesting much of an explanation, which i quite like.  I don't recall much of Ulik's plan other than deeding nefarious deeds, and Thor's situation was only dropped right at the end - so plenty of story to look forward to in the next couple of months -  I'm really quite looking forward to how this plays out.

Aquaman #4
I dropped Batman: The Dark Knight because i was not enjoying it at all, and actually dreaded reading it each month, so instead i will be picking up Aquaman!  I haven't actually gotten round to reading the first 3 issues yet.....but the fact I'm picking up up to issue four without having read a page surely says someone to the quality everyone is saying this book has!  Plus, I have loved the character's appearances in Justice League, and with both being written by Geoff Johns, I think it's safe to infer that this comic will treat the character just as well!

The Flash #4
Boy-oh-boy, last issues ending was amazing!  As cliffhangers go, that one was set up perfectly!  The Flash was shot in the face!  After his super-speed shenanigans, figuring out all possible outcomes and taking the best action for a given situation, i really was not expecting him to be shot before he had time to act.  Of course, Barry wont be dead, that would make for a very strange reboot, though I am expecting some genius writing to get him out of being, y'know, dead, so this book better deliver!

Superman #4
The connection between the three awesome baddies that have appeared in Superman these last couple of months is apparently being revealed (or at least hinted at) in this week's issue.  And these also tie into what is going on in Action Comics as well, which is pretty neat.  I've had a lot of praise for the Superman comics since I started this column, and i don't think there is much more i can say at this moment!  If you are not currently getting a Superman ongoing, get one!  Or both!

Dish Out!

Dish's Stack is where i talk about the comics i will be buying this week!  Judge my taste all you like, but that's what this is! I will normally focus on my thoughts of previous issues and possible developments, but nevertheless be wary of minor (or possibly major) spoilers if you do not keep very up-to-date with series or previews, but I'll do my best not to reveal anything too surprising
