Dish's Stack - Marvel and DC Comics - 07/12/11

This week there is a triple-bill from the Spider-Man family of comics, and I look forward to the latest of DC's longest running series.  Read the whole article after the jump!

Amazing Spider-Man #675

Last issue reintroduced the new-look Vulture after an appearance in The Punisher, and i felt it was a little lacking after the thrills of Spider Island, but this week should pack the action back in.  Peter is back working with his ex-girlfriend as they try to crack a case of mysterious 'suicides' - this is classic Spider-Man!  Mixing the super-hero stuff with Pee-Pee's personal life is what Spider-Man is all about, so I'm sure this issue will bring ASM back to its best.

Avenging Spider-Man #2
The first issue of this new series blew me away; it was a perfect Spider-Man comic - lame one-liners, cool fight scenes and an awesome 'big-bad' reveal, and the artwork was absolutely stunning!  I was really looking forward to this 'team-up' series, and it did not disappoint, so here's hoping this issue can keep up the high standard.

Fear Itself: The Fearless #4
Coming up to the half-way point of this epilogue mini-series, the goals of the treasure-hunters aren't exactly clear yet.  Maybe this week more will be made clear, but if it can do that while keeping the quality of action and intrigue of the last couple of issues, i'll be a very happy nerd.

Moon Knight #8
Last month's issue had an incredible villain reveal, and it appears Moon Knight is way out of his depth.  Count Nefaria is the Kingpin of L.A. and seemed less annoyed that someone is trying to foil his plans than he was that that someone is Moon Knight!  Now we know who the true villain of this arc is, hopefully the series will continue its increase in quality, and we can get some truly classic comics!

The Punisher #6
There was an oddly long time-skip in the last issue, so this series appears to be operating pretty close to 'present day' - or whatever can be taken for present day in comicbooks.  Castle has recovered from his multi-story fall and is back on the case of shutting down 'the mob'.  At least as far as i can tell.  I don't know whether it says more about me or the comic that that's all the plot i can think of after a month...  I'm enjoying the series enough though, so it must be doing something right.

Venom #10
The last Venom comic really packed in the senseless violence - and it was pretty cool!  It really added a shock value to the series and worked really well.  This issue sees Flash Thompson go rogue and the return of recurring villain Jack o'Lantern.  Another steady series i have no worries about quality-wise!

Action Comics #4
This week, Superman fights robots!  Need i say more?  This title has been excellent thus far, and i have no reason to believe this issue will be any different.  The wider scope of the series is apparently going to be coming to the fore starting with this issue, so hopefully it will live up to everything else about the series.  There is also meant to be a secondary story with this issue about the origins of the hero Steel - isn't that the guy from the lame Shaquille O'Neal film?

Detective Comics #4
The last issue really left us hanging - see what i did there?  Batman has fallen into the Dollmaker's trap, and must fight through his minions to regain his freedom.  This is the end of the first arc of Detective before the new year brings us a Penguin story so it promises to be an action-packed affair.

Dish Out!

Dish's Stack is where i talk about the comics i will be buying this week!  Judge my taste all you like, but that's what this is! I will normally focus on my thoughts of previous issues and possible developments, but nevertheless be wary of minor (or possibly major) spoilers if you do not keep very up-to-date with series or previews, but I'll do my best not to reveal anything too surprising
