Dish's Stack - Marvel and DC Comics - 21/12/11

After last week's relatively short stack, i get one of a respectable size this week including: Amazing Spider-Man #676, Daredevil #7 and Batman #4.  My thoughts and previews after the jump!

Amazing Spider-Man #676
The Sinister Six are back!  This issue is the start of the new epic story line featuring the latest incarnation of the baddest supervillain group around!  We recently saw some snippets of activity from the group while Spidey was first joining up with the FF, with Doc Oc even managing to break into the Baxter Building and perform, what i can only assume are, nefarious acts!  This arc is going to be with us for at least the next 6 months or so, so don't expect many major revelations, but a great kickoff point for Spidey's 50th year in the Biz should be expected.

Daredevil #7
It seems like only yesterday that i was complaining that it had felt like an age since the last Daredevil comic had come out, and yet here we are with issue 7 coming out tomorrow.  Last month the horned-red-one stood off against five of Marvel's biggest criminal groups (A.I.M., Hydra, AgencĂ© Byzantium, The Secret Empire and Black Spectre) and came out unscathed, with a shiny, new FF badge to boot!  It's difficult to anticipate where this story development will lead, but I'm sure Mark Waid knows what he's doing, and will keep up the high standard this book has set itself.  By my calculations, this issue is likely to be a one-shot story or a build-up towards Daredevil's team up with Spider-Man in the new year, so let's hope this book can end 2011 with a bang!

Fantastic 4 #601
Last month's anniversary issue heralded the long-hinted return of Johnny 'The Human Torch' Storm, and this issue looks to be following straight on from that bumper mag.  With Hickman working two monthly FF-based series, one would think the temptation would be there to take things slower and develop the story more subtly - but with an epic beat-down being delivered to Ben, and fighting around the Baxter Building in the previews, you can guess this issue is instead going to be choc-full of high octane action.  Awesome!

Fear Itself: The Fearless #5
Wow, i sure am talking about the Baxter Building a lot in this post...  The last issue of '...The Fearless' Valkyrie found the FF headquarters unusually easy to break into - until she stumbled across Ben Grimm anyway.  She wants his old hammer, and there is little evidence to suggest he is going to roll over and give it up...  Meanwhile, Sin and Crossbones have bumped into Namor while searching the depths for Attuma's hammer - they managed to get away, but they wont be alone for long.

Thunderbolts #167
Our lovable anti-heroes are stuck in Victorian London, and two of their party have gone AWOL. This issue pits Thunderbolt Vs. Thunderbolt as the team battle amongst themselves to determine how/when/if they are going to return to present day.  Previews suggest the 'bolts still in the present day will have a greater presence again sooner rather than later, but personally i could keep the Thunderbolts bouncing around time indefinitely - it's been a lot of fun so far!

Venom #11
Venom #10 only came out a fortnight ago, so we're clearly being spoilt as Christmas rears its gift-bearing head.  Flash is now on the run having given Captain America himself the slip, and stealing his motorbike in the process.  Seeds are being sewn for the Venom event in a couple of months, as Flash makes his way to Las Vegas to steal some unknown object from the city.  This issue introduces Red Hulk to the story who, as we know from sneak-peaks, plays a big part in the arc, and he is tasked to bring down Flash and the Venom Symbiote.  Looks like we're in for a cool fight sequence or two!

Batman #4
This series is delivering mystery like all good Batman stories should.  Last month it was discovered that the Court of Owls are more deeply rooted in Gotham's history than anyone suspected - with hidden lairs all across the city.  Secrets relating to the Wayne family will be revealed as the World's Greatest Detective attempts to uncover the secrets this society has been keeping.  This is a great book that looks to be keeping Batman comics held in high regard.

Justice League #4
With the appearance of Aquaman last month, the core of the team is almost complete, and all that is needed is a credible threat for them all to take on.  I feel this issue is going to be very important as to whether this series is to be seen as a success or not - all the pieces are in place and all that is needed is for them to go and do their thing!

Dish Out!

Dish's Stack is where i talk about the comics i will be buying this week!  Judge my taste all you like, but that's what this is! I will normally focus on my thoughts of previous issues and possible developments, but nevertheless be wary of minor (or possibly major) spoilers if you do not keep very up-to-date with series or previews, but I'll do my best not to reveal anything too surprising
